For the Dump Cake Base:

  • 4 medium ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced (plus more for topping)
  • 1 box yellow or white cake mix
  • 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter, melted

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream (or 1 tub whipped topping)
  • 12 bananas, sliced (for garnish)
  • ½ cup fresh strawberries, halved or sliced
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • Optional: Chocolate syrup or melted chocolate for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Layer the fruits. Spread the sliced bananas evenly in the bottom of the pan. Spoon the drained crushed pineapple on top, followed by the sliced strawberries.
  3. Add the cake mix. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the fruit layer — do not stir.
  4. Add butter. Drizzle the melted butter evenly across the entire surface to moisten the cake mix. Gaps are okay — the butter will spread as it bakes.
  5. Bake. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  6. Cool slightly. Let the cake cool for at least 10–15 minutes before adding toppings.
  7. Add toppings. Spread whipped cream or spoon on whipped topping. Garnish with sliced bananas, strawberries, chopped nuts, and drizzle with chocolate syrup if desired.

Notes

Don’t mix the layers — dumping and layering is key for texture.

Use ripe, but not overly soft bananas for best flavor.

Serve warm for a cobbler-like dessert or chilled for a creamy, trifle-style treat.

Add maraschino cherries for a true banana split effect.
