Description

A bold twist on the classic sloppy joe with ground chicken and Cajun spices. Quick, flavorful, and perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1/2 onion, finely diced

  • 1 bell pepper, finely diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning

  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce or ketchup

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp brown sugar (optional, for balance)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 4 sandwich buns, toasted

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.

  • Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

  • Add ground chicken, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 7–8 minutes.

  • Sprinkle Cajun seasoning over the chicken and stir well to coat evenly.

  • Mix in tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Reduce heat and simmer for 5–10 minutes until thickened.

  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.

Notes

For extra heat, add a splash of hot sauce or diced jalapeños. The filling can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 4 days or frozen for 2 months. Serve with coleslaw, fries, or a green salad.
