Description

Hearty Cheesy Beef Shepherd’s Pie layered with vegetables, savory beef, creamy mashed potatoes, and melted cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, shredded
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1 (10.75 oz) can tomato soup
  • 1 (15 oz) can green beans, drained
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 4 cups prepared mashed potatoes
  • 1 ½ cups grated cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a medium casserole dish.
  2. Cook the Beef
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add Vegetables
Add diced onion, shredded carrot, and chopped celery to the skillet. Cook for 5–7 minutes until vegetables soften.
  4. Season and Simmer
Stir in tomato soup, green beans, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until well combined and heated through.
  5. Assemble the Pie
Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared casserole dish.
  6. Top with Mashed Potatoes
Gently spread mashed potatoes over the beef layer, smoothing the surface with a spatula.
  7. Add Cheese
Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese evenly over the mashed potatoes.
  8. Bake
Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and lightly golden.
  9. Rest and Serve
Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving for cleaner slices.

Notes

Use freshly grated cheese for better melting.

For extra flavor, season mashed potatoes with butter and garlic before topping.
