Description
This Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Orzo is a creamy one-pan dinner packed with protein, veggies, and flavor in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups orzo pasta
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound chicken sausage, sliced
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the sausage:
In a large skillet or sauté pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and heated through. Remove and set aside. - Sauté the garlic:
In the same skillet, add minced garlic. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, scraping up any browned bits from the sausage for added flavor. - Add orzo and broth:
Stir in the orzo and pour in the chicken broth. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer. - Simmer and cook:
Reduce the heat to low and cook uncovered for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed. - Add broccoli and sausage:
Stir in the broccoli florets and cooked sausage. Cover and cook for 3–4 more minutes until the broccoli is tender and bright green. - Finish with cheese and herbs:
Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan until creamy. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
Notes
Use pre-cooked chicken sausage to save time.
For a creamier texture, add a splash of milk or a tablespoon of butter at the end.
Don’t overcook the orzo — it should stay slightly al dente for the best texture.
Add red pepper flakes for a little spice or sun-dried tomatoes for a tangy twist.
You can swap broccoli for asparagus, spinach, or peas for variety.
