- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate, for topping
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup chopped nuts (almonds, pecans, or hazelnuts)
- Pinch of sea salt (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang.
- Melt 1 cup chocolate in a double boiler or microwave until smooth, then pour into the pan and chill until slightly firm.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and heavy cream over medium heat. Stir constantly until caramel thickens and turns golden.
- Pour caramel over the chocolate layer, spreading evenly. Let cool slightly.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts evenly over the caramel, pressing gently to adhere. Add a pinch of sea salt if desired.
- Melt the remaining chocolate and spread over the nut layer. Chill until fully set, about 2 hours.
- Lift slab from pan using parchment overhang and cut into squares. Serve or store in an airtight container.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or refrigerate for 2 weeks. Freeze individually wrapped squares for up to 3 months. Perfect with coffee, red wine, or as a dessert topping.
