  • 40 saltine crackers (about 1 standard package)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (approximately 1 standard package)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet completely with aluminum foil, then lightly grease the foil or line with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, edge to edge, covering the entire baking sheet.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly.
  4. Once the mixture comes to a rolling boil, continue boiling for exactly 3 minutes while stirring. This creates a proper caramel texture.
  5. Carefully pour the hot caramel evenly over the crackers, using a spatula to spread if needed.
  6. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbling.
  7. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel.
  8. Let the chocolate sit for 2–3 minutes, then spread it evenly with a spatula.
  9. Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
  10. Once set, break into pieces and serve.

Notes

Work carefully with hot caramel—it’s extremely hot.

Use even cracker placement to ensure uniform layers.

Let the candy fully cool before breaking to avoid smearing chocolate.
