Description
Soft, golden Cinnamon French Toast Bites — crispy edges, fluffy centers, and a sweet cinnamon-sugar coating.
Ingredients
- 4 thick slices of slightly stale white bread (1” / 2.5 cm thick)
- 2 large eggs (or 3 small eggs)
- ¼ cup milk
- Pinch of salt
- ¼ cup white sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon powder
- 3 tbsp butter, separated
- Maple syrup, to serve (not optional!)
Instructions
Step 1 – Prep the Bread
- Cut the bread into bite-sized cubes, about 1 inch each.
- If the bread is too fresh, leave the cubes out for 15–20 minutes to dry slightly. This helps them absorb the custard better.
Step 2 – Make the Custard Mixture
3. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and salt until smooth.
4. In a separate small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon; set aside for coating later.
Step 3 – Dip and Cook
5. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
6. Dip a handful of bread cubes into the egg mixture, coating them evenly.
7. Place coated cubes into the pan and cook until golden brown on all sides (about 2–3 minutes per side).
8. Remove cooked bites and place them on a paper towel-lined plate. Repeat with remaining bread cubes, adding more butter as needed.
Step 4 – Coat with Cinnamon Sugar
9. While still warm, toss cooked bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
Step 5 – Serve and Enjoy
10. Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup. Optional toppings: fresh berries, powdered sugar, or a dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
Slightly stale bread is a must — it prevents sogginess.
Cook in butter, not oil, for that rich, bakery-style flavor.
For extra crunch, toss bites twice in cinnamon sugar — once warm, once cooled.
