Description

Soft, chewy sugar cookies with a refreshing citrus twist and creamy vanilla flavor. A nostalgic treat inspired by the classic creamsicle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange zest

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

  2. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and orange zest until smooth.

  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.

  4. Cover and chill the dough for 30 minutes to firm up.

  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough, place on the sheet, and bake for 9–11 minutes until edges are lightly golden.

  7. Let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Freeze baked cookies or dough balls for up to 3 months. Delicious served with tea, milk, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
