Description

A hearty and comforting casserole with layers of sliced potatoes, smoky sausage, and creamy sauce baked to golden perfection. Perfect for family dinners or meal prep.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced

  • 4 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream or whole milk

  • 2 tbsp flour or cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 12×8 inch baking dish.

  2. In a skillet, sauté sausage until lightly browned, then add onions and cook until softened.

  3. Arrange a layer of potatoes in the baking dish, followed by sausage and onions, then sprinkle with cheese. Repeat layers, finishing with potatoes on top.

  4. In a bowl, whisk cream, flour, butter, and seasonings until smooth. Pour evenly over the casserole.

  5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil, top with remaining cheese, and bake 15 minutes more until golden and bubbly.

  6. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to set.

Notes

Letting the casserole rest helps the layers hold together. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
