First-Place Coconut Macaroons Recipe: Crispy & Chewy Delight

  • Author: Sarah White

Description

These First-Place Coconut Macaroons are a simple, yet delicious treat that’s crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. With just a few basic ingredients—shredded coconut, egg whites, sugar, and vanilla—this recipe comes together quickly, making it perfect for beginners or seasoned bakers alike. Whether served at a special occasion or as an everyday snack, these macaroons are sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/3 cups sweetened shredded coconut

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • 2 large egg whites

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.

  • Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the shredded coconut, sugar, all-purpose flour, and salt. Stir until all ingredients are evenly mixed.

  • Whisk Wet Ingredients: In a separate small bowl, whisk together the egg whites and vanilla extract until the mixture becomes frothy. It doesn’t need to form stiff peaks, just enough to incorporate air into the egg whites.

  • Combine Mixtures: Pour the egg white mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until the mixture is fully combined. The consistency should be sticky but firm enough to hold its shape when scooped.

  • Shape the Macaroons: Using a tablespoon, drop rounded portions of the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Space them about 1 inch apart to allow for slight expansion during baking.

  • Bake: Bake for 18–20 minutes or until the edges and tops of the macaroons turn a beautiful golden brown. Keep an eye on them, as ovens can vary in temperature.

  • Cool and Serve: Once baked, let the macaroons cool on the baking sheet for about 2 minutes. Then, carefully transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!

Notes

Consistency: Make sure the mixture holds together when scooped; if it’s too wet, add a touch more coconut or flour.

Baking Time: Keep an eye on the macaroons in the oven, as baking time can vary slightly based on your oven and the size of the macaroons.

Customization: Feel free to add chocolate chips, dried fruit, or even dip the macaroons in chocolate for a fun twist.

Storage: These macaroons are best stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or frozen for longer shelf life.
