  • Author: Sarah White

Description

A cozy, comforting dish with tender beef, caramelized onion flavor, and hearty noodles. Perfect for family dinners or chilly nights.

Ingredients

 • 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 pound beef stew meat
• 1 teaspoon onion powder
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
• 3 cups beef broth
• 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
• 8 ounces egg noodles
• Salt and black pepper, to taste
• 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese (optional for topping)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Add beef stew meat in batches, searing on all sides until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add sliced onion to the pan and cook until soft and caramelized, about 8–10 minutes.
  4. Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up browned bits from the bottom.
  5. Return beef to the skillet, pour in beef broth, and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 30–35 minutes, or until beef is tender.
  6. Stir in egg noodles and cook uncovered until noodles are tender and most of the liquid is absorbed, about 8–10 minutes.
  7. Season with salt and pepper. Top with cheese before serving, if desired.

Notes

For deeper flavor, caramelize the onions slowly until golden brown. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days, reheating with a splash of broth. Freeze in airtight containers for up to 2 months.
