Description

These Dirt Cupcakes are a fun and easy treat, perfect for parties and themed events. They combine moist chocolate cupcakes with rich chocolate frosting, a crushed Oreo topping, and a surprise of gummy worms.


Ingredients

  • Cupcakes:
    • 1 box Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
    • 3 eggs
    • 1 ¼ cups water or milk
    • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting:
    • ½ cup milk chocolate chips, melted
    • ½ cup butter, softened
    • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
    • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • Toppings:
    • 15 Oreos, crushed
    • 1 bag gummy worms

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
  • In a large bowl, combine the Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix, eggs, water (or milk), and vegetable oil. Mix well until smooth.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the cupcake liners, filling each ⅔ full.
  • Bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cupcakes cool completely.
  • For the frosting: Melt the chocolate chips and let them cool slightly. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add vanilla extract, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and melted chocolate. Mix until creamy and well-combined.
  • Once the cupcakes are cooled, frost them with the chocolate cream cheese frosting.
  • Sprinkle the crushed Oreos on top of the frosting to resemble “dirt.”
  • Decorate each cupcake with a few gummy worms, gently pressing them into the “dirt” to make them look like they’re emerging from the soil.

Notes

You can prepare the cupcakes a day in advance, but wait to frost and decorate them on the day of serving for best results.
