Ingredients

- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 extra-large onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons water (Optional)
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger root
- 1 serrano chile pepper, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 3 potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 cup frozen green peas
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and cook until translucent.
- Stir in water, if needed, to prevent sticking.
- Add ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks.
- Mix in garlic, ginger, and serrano chile pepper, and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add cilantro, coriander, salt, cumin, cayenne pepper, and turmeric, and cook for 5 minutes.
- Stir in diced potatoes and tomatoes, cover and simmer until potatoes are tender.
- Add frozen peas and garam masala, and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
