Classic sugar cookies decorated to resemble Jack Skellington from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” perfect for Halloween parties and themed events.

- Sugar Cookies:
- ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 eggs (100g), well beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon whole milk
- 2 ½ cups (300g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Royal Icing:
- 2 pasteurized egg whites (60g)
- 3 cups (340g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 tablespoon water
- A few drops of black food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs, vanilla, and milk.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to ¼-inch thickness. Cut out round shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden. Allow to cool completely.
- For the royal icing, beat the egg whites until frothy. Gradually add powdered sugar and water, and mix until smooth. Add black food coloring to a small portion of the icing.
- Use white icing to flood the cookies. Once set, pipe Jack Skellington’s face with black icing.

- Ensure cookies are completely cooled before decorating.
- For perfect consistency, adjust the icing’s thickness with additional water or powdered sugar.
