- 24 large mushrooms, stems removed, or more as needed
- 1 pound bulk hot Italian sausage
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 ounces grated Parmesan cheese, divided
- ¼ cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Remove from heat and drain excess grease.
- Add diced onion to the sausage and cook until softened.
- Stir in half of the Parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, garlic, and parsley. Mix well.
- Spoon the sausage mixture into the mushroom caps, pressing gently.
- Place the stuffed mushrooms on a baking sheet and sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender and the tops are golden.
Notes
- For a milder flavor, use sweet Italian sausage instead of hot.
