Description
A rich and indulgent homemade candy with buttery caramel and a smooth chocolate topping. Perfect for holidays, gifts, or sweet cravings.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups evaporated milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cups chocolate, melted (milk, dark, or semi-sweet)
Instructions
- Line a 9Ă—13-inch baking dish with parchment paper and lightly grease it for easy removal.
- In a heavy saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Stir in evaporated milk, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until dissolved.
- Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it reaches the soft-ball stage (234°F–240°F) on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and stir in the remaining 1 cup butter until smooth and glossy.
- Pour the caramel mixture into the prepared dish and let cool completely until set.
- Melt chocolate in a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals until smooth. Spread evenly over the cooled caramel layer.
- Allow the chocolate to set fully, then lift the candy out by the parchment and cut into squares or bars.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, refrigerate for 2 weeks, or freeze up to 2 months. Add sea salt or nuts for extra flavor.
