Description

A hearty, melty sandwich with bratwurst, tangy sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on soft pretzel buns. Perfect for Oktoberfest or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

  • 4 pretzel buns, halved and lightly toasted

  • 1 lb Oktoberfest sausages (bratwurst preferred)

  • 1 cup sauerkraut, drained

  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Slice pretzel buns in half and lightly toast to prevent sogginess.

  2. Cook sausages in a skillet over medium heat until browned and fully cooked, about 10–12 minutes. Slice lengthwise.

  3. Drain sauerkraut thoroughly; optionally sauté briefly for milder flavor.

  4. Assemble melts by layering sausage, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on the bottom half of each bun, then top with the other half.

  5. Bake assembled sandwiches in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5–7 minutes until cheese is melted. Serve warm.

Notes

Ensure sauerkraut is well-drained to avoid soggy buns. Serve with potato salad, fries, or a crisp green salad. Components can be prepared ahead for faster assembly.
