Description
A hearty, melty sandwich with bratwurst, tangy sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on soft pretzel buns. Perfect for Oktoberfest or cozy dinners.
Ingredients
- 4 pretzel buns, halved and lightly toasted
- 1 lb Oktoberfest sausages (bratwurst preferred)
- 1 cup sauerkraut, drained
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
Instructions
- Slice pretzel buns in half and lightly toast to prevent sogginess.
- Cook sausages in a skillet over medium heat until browned and fully cooked, about 10–12 minutes. Slice lengthwise.
- Drain sauerkraut thoroughly; optionally sauté briefly for milder flavor.
- Assemble melts by layering sausage, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on the bottom half of each bun, then top with the other half.
- Bake assembled sandwiches in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5–7 minutes until cheese is melted. Serve warm.
Notes
Ensure sauerkraut is well-drained to avoid soggy buns. Serve with potato salad, fries, or a crisp green salad. Components can be prepared ahead for faster assembly.
