Sloppy Joe Casserole

Sloppy Joe Casserole – Cheesy, Saucy, and Family-Approved

  • Author: Sarah White

Description

This Sloppy Joe Casserole turns the classic sandwich into a cheesy, comforting pasta bake. Loaded with Manwich sauce, ground beef, and two kinds of melty cheese, it’s an easy family dinner that’s hearty, delicious, and ready in under an hour.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 cup diced yellow onion
  • 24-ounce can original Manwich sauce
  • 15-ounce can original Manwich sauce
  • 12-ounce package farfalle (bowtie) noodles, cooked al dente
  • 8-ounce package shredded Velveeta cheese
  • 8-ounce package shredded Colby-Jack cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook farfalle noodles until just al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Cook beef and onions: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and diced onion over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is tender, about 6–8 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  4. Add sauce: Pour both cans of Manwich sauce into the skillet with the beef mixture. Stir well and simmer for 3–5 minutes to thicken slightly.
  5. Combine with pasta: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the beef and sauce mixture. Add shredded Velveeta cheese and stir until evenly distributed and slightly melted.
  6. Layer and top: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the top with shredded Colby-Jack cheese.
  7. Bake: Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden around the edges.
  8. Serve: Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Pair with garlic bread or a crisp green salad for a complete meal.

Notes

Active time: ~20 minutes. Passive baking: ~25 minutes. For a slightly crisp topping, broil the casserole for the last 2 minutes of baking. You can also substitute elbow macaroni or rotini for the farfalle if preferred.
