Ingredients
-
1 lb ground beef
-
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
-
1 egg
-
1/4 cup minced onion
-
1 tsp salt
-
1/4 tsp pepper
-
2 tbsp butter
-
1 onion, sliced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 can (10.75 oz) cream of mushroom soup
-
1/4 cup water
-
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
-
Prepare the hamburger steaks: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced onion, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
-
Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
-
Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove patties from skillet and set aside.
-
In the same skillet, add sliced onions and sauté for 5 minutes until softened and translucent.
-
Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
-
Stir in cream of mushroom soup, water, and Worcestershire sauce, mixing well to create a smooth gravy.
-
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon some gravy over them, and reduce heat to low.
-
Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the steaks to become tender.
-
Serve hot, spooning extra gravy over steaks. Ideal served alongside mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or rice.
Notes
Mix ground beef gently with breadcrumbs, egg, and seasonings to keep patties tender.
Let patties rest in the fridge for 15–20 minutes to help them hold their shape while cooking.
