Description
- Decadent chocolate cupcakes topped with realistic, edible broken glass candy and a sweet, blood-like syrup for an impressive Halloween treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- ½ cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
- 1 cup boiling hot water
- 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup Dixie Crystals Sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- For the glass: Sugar, water, corn syrup
- For the blood: Corn syrup, red food coloring, a few drops of blue food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a cupcake tin with paper liners.
- Whisk the cocoa powder and boiling water in a small bowl until smooth.
- In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla.
- Alternate adding the flour mixture and cocoa mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
- Divide batter evenly into cupcake liners and bake for 18-20 minutes.
- For the glass, bring sugar, water, and corn syrup to a boil, then pour onto a lined baking sheet. Let cool until hardened, then break into shards.
- For the blood, mix corn syrup with food coloring.
- Top cupcakes with shards and drizzle with blood syrup.
Notes
Allow glass shards to cool completely before breaking, and be mindful of how thick the syrup is for the right blood effect.
