Description
This recipe gives a spooky twist to classic gingerbread cookies. Decorated with black, red, and white royal icing, these eerie gingerbread men are perfect for Halloween parties or as a creepy edible decoration.

- 4 c. all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled, plus more for work surface
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp. ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3 sticks (1 1/2 cups) unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 c. packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1 large egg
- Black, red, and white royal icing, for decorating
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the molasses and egg, and continue beating until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, beating until combined.
- Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut out gingerbread men shapes and place them on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until cookies are set. Let cool before decorating.
- Use black, red, and white royal icing to decorate the gingerbread men, giving them a spooky voodoo doll appearance.
