Description
A simple, glossy sugar cookie icing recipe that’s perfect for decorating festive cookies with vibrant colors.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoons corn syrup
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ tablespoons cold milk or water
- Gel food coloring (as needed)
Instructions
- Prepare the base icing:
In a medium bowl, sift the powdered sugar to remove any lumps. Add the corn syrup, vanilla extract, and cold milk or water. - Mix until smooth:
Stir the mixture until it’s smooth, glossy, and free of lumps. Adjust consistency by adding small amounts of milk or water if too thick, or a little more powdered sugar if too thin. - Divide and color:
Separate the icing into smaller bowls based on how many colors you want. Add gel food coloring a drop at a time and mix thoroughly until you achieve your desired colors. - Use immediately:
Use the icing right away for decorating. For outlining, keep icing thicker. For flooding, thin it slightly with extra milk or water. - Clean up:
Cover any unused icing tightly with plastic wrap to prevent drying. Store leftover icing in an airtight container.
