Sugar Cookie Icing Recipe

Sugar Cookie Icing Recipe

  • Author: Sarah White

Description

A simple, glossy sugar cookie icing recipe that’s perfect for decorating festive cookies with vibrant colors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons corn syrup
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ tablespoons cold milk or water
  • Gel food coloring (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base icing:
In a medium bowl, sift the powdered sugar to remove any lumps. Add the corn syrup, vanilla extract, and cold milk or water.
  2. Mix until smooth:
Stir the mixture until it’s smooth, glossy, and free of lumps. Adjust consistency by adding small amounts of milk or water if too thick, or a little more powdered sugar if too thin.
  3. Divide and color:
Separate the icing into smaller bowls based on how many colors you want. Add gel food coloring a drop at a time and mix thoroughly until you achieve your desired colors.
  4. Use immediately:
Use the icing right away for decorating. For outlining, keep icing thicker. For flooding, thin it slightly with extra milk or water.
  5. Clean up:
Cover any unused icing tightly with plastic wrap to prevent drying. Store leftover icing in an airtight container.
