Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
• 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• 1 cup warm whole milk
• 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (freshly grated)
• ½ teaspoon garlic powder
• ¼ teaspoon paprika
• Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
-
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until fully liquified.
-
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to form a smooth roux with a light golden color.
-
Gradually pour in the warm milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens slightly.
-
Remove from heat and add the shredded cheese in batches, whisking until smooth and melted.
-
Season with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Serve warm over fries or as a dip.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently over low heat, adding a splash of milk to restore creaminess.
