  • 2 cups dry navy beans, soaked overnight
  • ½ pound uncooked bacon strips
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon dry mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Drain and rinse the soaked navy beans.
  3. In a large pot, cover beans with water and bring to a boil. Simmer until tender, about 1 hour.
  4. In a skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside, leaving the drippings.
  5. Sauté diced onion in bacon drippings until translucent.
  6. In a large baking dish, combine beans, bacon, sautéed onion, ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dry mustard.
  7. Add enough water to just cover the beans.
  8. Cover and bake for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally and adding water if needed.
  9. Remove cover during the last hour to allow beans to brown.
